A Beautiful Mess
With heavy drums, powerful bass notes and distortion effects, Nick Hackim takes us to those moments of internal chaos where we’ve felt disoriented and confused.
“Bouncing” came out as the first release of Nick Hakim’s newest album WILL THIS MAKE ME GOOD, a question he’s been asking himself since he was prescribed medication to control his erratic attention when he was little. The New York soul musician’s second album follows his 2017 debut Green Twins with a number of intimate songs that invite us to sink with him into his deepest and most confusing thoughts.
In an official press statement the artist shared the inspiration behind “Bouncing” - “This song is a sound bath where I wrote about one of the coldest days in New York I remember, while lying in my bed, restless by a radiator.” It talks about all those agitated nights spent looking for some clarity. “This song has been a meditation for me.” Nick shared via Instagram.
With heavy drums, powerful bass notes and distortion effects, the song takes us to those moments of internal chaos where we’ve felt disoriented and tense. “I’ve been tryna find peace/ ‘Cause I’ve been bouncing off the walls, and I can’t sleep.”
Nick has admitted that WILL THIS MAKE ME GOOD can come across as messy and maybe muddling. “There’s so much pressure on artists to commit to being one thing, or to restrict an album to exploring just one subject or sound,” he says. “But my life isn’t like that, and so my music can’t be like that either.” If anything, we describe his album as a beautiful soulful mess.
