Let Nature Keep You Warm
PANGAIA, the colorful oasis in the desert we’ve been waiting for.
PANGAIA, a London-based biotech company, invites us to a colorful world of eco-possibilities! And we are thrilled to know that the future of our wardrobe essentials is in hands of such an amazing team formed by scientists, designers, and engineers, all working together to save the environment one piece of clothing at a time.
They are true pioneers, and they believe that having an open platform to share their discoveries with others, can be the first step into building a world where sustainability is part of our daily lives.
PANGAIA is a multi-purpose brand that not only focuses on using and creating technology to develop sustainable materials, they also pay close attention to their production line. Their materials and processes, their philanthropy program, the drive of their team, and even the delivery and packaging of each product, are carefully designed to reduce negative impacts on the Planet.
To make this happen, the collective brings works with innovative laboratories from Italy, Portugal, UK, USA, Japan, and Korea, where science meets fashion.
Thanks to this amazing network, PANGAIA can offer a variety of technologies like seaweed fibers, which avoid the use of pesticides and less waste of water and land; a peppermint-oil treatment used as a natural antibacterial finishing for t-shirts to keep them vibrant and fresher for a longer period of time; natural dyes produced from food waste that make clothes biodegradable and non-toxic; organic cotton and reused plastic which they turn into yarn; and a bio-based plastic packaging called TIPA, that disappears completely after 6 months in a compost bin.
Have you ever thought of what makes you feel warm when using a puffer jacket during those cold winters? Well, the most common answers are duck or goose down (the soft layer underneath their feathers that keeps them warm) or synthetic polyester (which is a less cruel, vegan option, but not a sustainable one). Well, here’s where PANGAIA comes in:
They have created FLWRDWN®, the first vegan cruelty-free biodegradable puffer jacket. On the outside, you can find a beautiful minimalistic PANGAIA-style design made out of 100% recycled polyester, but what’s inside will make you fall in love with the brand even more: flower-down filling. They use unprocessed wildflowers that are harvested and mechanically cleaned and dried, without wasting any water. Later, they shred the flowers and combine them with a green-tech biopolymer (made out of vegetable waste) infused in an aerogel (a sort of porous solid foam) made of 85% recycled paper. This allows your jacket to be breathable and puffy, but also keeps you warm. This flower filling also prevents the possible bacterial issues derived from animal fillings.
PANGAIA’s technology positions them as pioneers in the industry; it took them 10 years of investigation and development to come up with the final product. We can’t wait to see what’s coming next for them.
