The Shows That Caught Our Eye This NYFW

Even though Manhattan and Brooklyn’s streets are still buzzing with excitement, New York Fashion Week's Fall/Winter 2023 season is officially over.

Heritage brands and established designers such as Fendi and Tom Ford each made a dazzling return to New York while emerging creatives such as Luar and No Sesso proved why they should soon be recognized as household names.

But what caught our eye this year was the variety of designers that turned their collections into art shows and multidisciplinary immersive experiences. Take a look at our list below for some of the pleasant surprises we encountered this season:

Last season, we were invited to Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell’s prom-themed presentation in the West Village, and what an experience it was! This time the duo decided to create a digital lookbook that allowed us to immerse ourselves even further into their up-and-coming world. The theme was a slumber party, shot at an apartment in Bed-Stuy that has been untouched since the 1950s. Whether it is through a digital activation or in real life, Tanner Fletcher keeps captivating us and we can’t wait to see what they do next.

The eco-friendly fashion house, Collina Strada presented a whimsical show in a venue described as a "multi-sensory experience celebrating Cannabis culture," decorated with green drapes and wooden benches. The models walked out in animal-like prosthetics imitating pigs, long-beaked birds, horses, deer, and roosters, resulting in a truly immersive experience for attendees.

In celebration of the Fall/Winter 2023 “The Hunte Model” collection, Romeo Hunte and Armani White hosted an after-party & listening party. The collection was revealed live at the event through projected visual mediums, and worn live by models, celebrities, and VIPs in attendance.

For his latest collection, Romeo Hunte integrated the major industry pillars of music, fashion, and tech that launched through an exclusive music video featuring top emerging rapper, Armani White, and his unreleased track titled “FLYSH*T" Co-produced by Armani White and Romeo Hunte, and executively produced by Hunte, the music video featured a shoppable click to purchase live upon the video's release - driving the launch exclusively through Romeo Hunte's e-commerce and associated channels.

Designer Marrisa Wilson held her SS23 presentation in an art gallery and hung 8 canvases she painted herself with her iconic fashion illustrations. Marrisa partnered with the musicians at @heramusiccollective, who were part of the show as they entered the runway wearing the brand themselves. The entire night was a celebration of rhythm and movement.

Puppets and Puppets, the eclectic brand behind the creative mind of Carly Mark was an ode to David Cronenberg’s 1988 film Dead Ringers. In an artful way to approach both the beauth and horrors in the world Mark described the collection as a push and pull between keeping yourself together psychologically, mentally, physically, emotionally.
