In 2008, Josh Golden launched his musical career on the internet, posting his music videos on YouTube. His insatiable intellectual curiosity dragged him from Chesterfield Missouri to the West Coast. Today, Josh has more than 1,500,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

We The Cool Magazine: What inspired you to pursue a musical career?

Josh Golden: My unstoppable love and passion for music. The music I listened to inspired me, also my family was super into music and that’s why I know since forever that I have to do this. I have to make it happen, and this idea has never stopped me since I was a little kid, probably at the age of seven or eight I already knew I was going to be a musician.

WTC: What was the moment in your career where you witnessed significant artistic development? Was they particularly challenging?

JG: When I moved to L.A I became a man. I moved away from my family and that was the moment when I really started finding out who I was as myself in this world and then really diving into writing about that. These events were particularly challenging for me.

WTC: What would you be doing right now if it wasn’t music?

JG:   I would probably be a soccer player, I love soccer so much. I would be in whatever team that would have me. When I was a kid I was the captain of my soccer team and I still love it although I haven't played in a long time. I actually think I want to find a soccer team to join and to just start playing again for fun.

WTC: Is there an artist that you would you like to collaborate with in the near future?

JG: There's so many but if we are talking in the near future I would say Dominic Fike because I love his artistic creativity.

WTC: Can you tell us in which ways your family and friends inspire your creativity?

JG: Friends and family are my biggest spiritual teachers, they challenge me to grow all the time and when you grow you become more aware of who you are. That has given be a deeper connection to music.  They help me get outside of my head and out of my box to live life and enjoy it fully in the present.

WTC: Which song are your playing on repeat?

I've been jamming a lot lately to Omar Apollo… he's actually Mexican, right?

WTC: Yeah he is, and he's pretty awesome too! Do you speak Spanish?

Poquito. I took Spanish lessons for a couple of years and I still know some. It's a great language and I love latin women. I actually spent some time in Puerto Vallarta and Oaxaca, it was a bliss.

WTC: Are there any albums/songs that impacted your music style?

JG: When I was growing up A Lesson In Romantics by Mayday Parade was a really big influence for me. Later on Channel Orange by Frank Ocean because who doesn't love Frank Ocean right? It's everyone's favorite.

WTC: What are you working on at the moment? Is there any exciting project that you would like to share with us?

I’m currently making an album which I'm super excited about. Last week I dropped a song called Freaks Me Out on YouTube and people are really liking it. My latest single is called You Don't Love Me for all my acoustic fans whom I'm beyond grateful.
